UK-based manufacturer InterBolt has added a dynamic load monitoring feature to its intelligent bolting system, enabling real-time quantification of cyclic loading in bolted connections. The new feature allows engineers to measure bolt loads at up to 250Hz while the asset remains in operation.
InterBolt sensors autonomously collect high-frequency load data, which is then transmitted wirelessly to the InterBolt Cloud for storage, analysis and visualisation. Previously, InterBolt provided bolt load measurements at hourly or daily intervals. With the introduction of dynamic load monitoring, it is now possible to capture critical load data at intervals as short as 4 milliseconds. Despite this increased frequency, the system can maintain a 12–15 year battery life through a burst sampling approach. InterBolt’s system uses a miniature sensor embedded directly into the bolt or threaded stud. It offers long-range wireless communication (up to 1 kilometre), LED indicators and extended battery life.
