Digital Catapult, in partnership with the Offshore Renewable Energy Catapult (ORE Catapult) and Ørsted, is supporting the development of deep technology solutions for offshore wind through collaboration with two UK-based innovators. AIM Group and Entopy were selected through the Digital Innovation Challenge to adapt and enhance existing digital and artificial intelligence solutions, with the aim of improving offshore wind operations and maintenance.
AIM Group will explore how artificial intelligence can be applied to structural risk management across man-made assets, detecting minor changes as early-stage defects and forecasting their development over time. Entopy is developing a ‘Unified Operational Intelligence’ approach for complex infrastructure systems, enabling operators to understand how events propagate across operations and where small disruptions may lead to wider impacts.
As part of the programme, Digital Catapult will provide innovation and technology consultancy, guidance on ethical and responsible artificial intelligence, and support for implementation in offshore wind farm operations. Offshore Renewable Energy Catapult will contribute sector knowledge, focusing on product-market fit and the interdependencies and data structures involved in offshore wind asset management.
The six-month programme also includes support from Ørsted, with opportunities for further collaboration and potential pilot projects within its global portfolio, including its 12 operational offshore wind farms in the United Kingdom.
