The European EDWIM (Energy Dense Wind Powertrains through Sustainable Innovative Manufacturing) project has officially started. Funded by the European Union through the Horizon Europe programme and managed by the European Climate, Infrastructure and Environment Executive Agency (CINEA), the project is coordinated by Ikerlan.
The consortium includes Flender, Flender Finland, EMA Indutec, Fraunhofer, Sidenor, Sidenor I+D, WP Generator, Flender D.O.O. Subotica, Heinrich Schümann, Isovolta, LKS Next, Rina Consulting and Zabala Innovation.
Backed by more than €7 million in funding over 48 months, the initiative aims to improve the manufacturing of gearbox ring gears and generator stators by combining advanced manufacturing technologies, digitalisation and sustainable industrial processes.
The project will develop a digital framework that integrates simulation technologies, intelligent decision-support systems and artificial intelligence-based optimisation tools to support process design, production monitoring and manufacturing performance assessment.
The technologies developed during the project will be validated in industrial environments to assess their performance, reliability and suitability for large-scale manufacturing. Two demonstration projects are planned: one focused on the production of gearbox ring gears and the other on the manufacture of generator stators.
