BayWa r.e. has obtained concept certification from DNV for its BayFloat semi-submersible concrete substructure and mooring system for floating wind turbines. DNV validated the design using the IEA-22-280-RWT 22 MW reference turbine.
BayWa r.e. will now move to the next phase, which involves building and monitoring a reduced-scale version of the substructure to demonstrate constructability and support future industrial deployment. This stage will address key challenges identified during concept certification and help prepare the design for larger projects.
The certification process followed DNV-SE-0422 and DNV-ST-0119, involving detailed assessments and plausibility checks. DNV concluded that the BayFloat concrete substructure and mooring system is suitable for further development and meets the requirements for concept-level certification.
Ramboll supported the design and certification work with engineering input and advisory services.
