According to GWEC’s annual Supply Side Data report, wind turbine manufacturers reached a historic high in volume in 2023. GWEC Market Intelligence revealed that a total of 30 wind turbine manufacturers collectively installed 120.7 GW of new capacity last year.

Chinese suppliers dominated the market by installing 81.6 GW in 2023, securing four of the top five positions in the supplier rankings. Goldwind claimed the top spot, followed by Envision ascending three positions to second place, with Denmark’s Vestas securing third place. Windey and Mingyang secured fourth and fifth place, respectively, with Mingyang emerging as the world’s largest offshore wind turbine supplier in 2023. Sany and Dongfang completed the Chinese presence in the top 10. However, 97 percent of Chinese company installations in 2023 were within China, consistent with the previous year. Chinese companies installed 2.3 GW outside their home market last year, with 63% of that in the Asia region.

In Europe, Vestas, Siemens Gamesa, Nordex Group, GE Vernova, and Enercon maintained their positions as the top five turbine suppliers in 2023. Despite falling two positions from 2022 to third place globally, Vestas retains its status as the most geographically diverse OEM, with wind turbines installed in 36 countries. Regarding total global cumulative wind turbine installations, Vestas, Siemens Gamesa, and GE Vernova remained the top three suppliers by the end of 2023.

The report also highlights that a total of 23,833 wind turbines were installed worldwide in 2023, manufactured by 30 different companies. Among these, 19 are from the Asia-Pacific region, eight from Europe, two from America, and one from the Middle East. Growth was primarily propelled by orders from manufacturers’ home markets, particularly China, the USA, and Europe.
