Global wind power installations expected to recover in second half of 2026

Global wind power installations slowed in the first half of 2026, with 59 GW of new capacity added compared with 71 GW in the same period of 2025. However, the World Wind Energy Association (WWEA), in its Half-year Report 2026, expects installations to accelerate in the second half of the year, potentially bringing annual additions close to the 173 GW recorded in 2025. Over the 12 months from July 2025 to June 2026, new wind power installations totalled 159 GW, up from 152 GW in the preceding 12-month period. This indicates that the industry continues to expand despite the slowdown during the first half of 2026.
Ofgem launches tender for Hornsea 3 transmission assets

Ofgem has launched a tender for the offshore transmission assets connecting the Hornsea 3 offshore wind farm to the UK electricity grid. Hornsea 3 is under construction in the North Sea, more than 100 kilometres offshore. The project is scheduled for completion by the end of 2027 and is expected to generate enough electricity to power 3.3 million UK homes.

US administration seeks review of New England Wind approval

The US Department of Justice has asked a federal court to return the approval for Avangrid’s New England Wind offshore wind project to the Department of the Interior for reconsideration. The project is planned off the coast of Massachusetts and has not yet begun construction.
Wind power generation in the USA rises by 7.8% as renewables expand

Wind power generation in the USA increased by 7.8% in the first eight months of 2026 compared with the same period in 2025, while installed wind capacity grew by almost 10 GW over the 12 months to the end of August. According to data from the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA), renewable electricity generation increased by 10.2% overall, with further growth in solar power and hydropower.
