Renewable sources account for 86% of EDP’s total installed capacity (EBITDA plus equity), reaching 27.7 GW as of mid-2025. This includes 2.1 GW of equity in onshore wind and solar across North America, Iberia and the Asia-Pacific region, hydro in Brazil, and offshore wind in Europe. Over the past 12 months, 3.5 GW of new wind, solar and distributed solar generation were added, mainly in Brazil, USA, Italy, Spain, Greece, Poland, Romania, Hungary, the Netherlands and France.
Capacity under construction totals 2.3 GW, including solar and wind projects in North America, the United Kingdom, Italy, Greece, Germany, France, Spain, Portugal, Brazil and Asia-Pacific. Hydro capacity remains significant, with 5.5 GW in Iberia (45% with pumping capability) and 1.4 GW in Brazil. EDP also holds equity stakes in three Brazilian hydro plants totalling 0.6 GW, with a disposal agreement announced in March 2025.
In the first half of 2025, gross profit from renewables increased by 20%. In Iberia, hydro performance benefited from a 58% year-on-year increase in the average spot price and a 13% rise in pumped storage output, despite slightly lower generation. In wind and solar, output rose 12% year-on-year due to additional capacity, although this was offset by weaker resource conditions and a 9% fall in average selling prices.
EBITDA from renewables rose 9% year-on-year to €1,605 million. Hydro EBITDA grew by 29% due to higher prices, while wind and solar EBITDA decreased by 1% (remaining stable in recurring terms at €960 million).
Regionally, North America has 9.3 GW of capacity, 69% wind and 29% solar, with storage representing 2%. Recent additions included several large solar and storage projects, bringing a production increase of 18% year-on-year. EBITDA in this region rose 28% year-on-year to USD 652 million.
In Iberia, installed capacity reached 3.8 GW, mainly onshore wind, with a 6% capacity increase. Output decreased 3% due to weaker resources, and EBITDA was €202 million.
In the rest of Europe, capacity reached 3 GW, mostly wind onshore, with 665 MW of new additions. Output fell 11% due to resource conditions and asset sales, but gross profit grew 5% due to higher selling prices.
In South America, 1.7 GW is installed, mostly in Brazil. Capacity increased by 436 MW, and output rose 46%. EBITDA reached €25 million.
In Asia-Pacific, the portfolio totals 1.1 GW, mainly solar in Vietnam and Singapore. EBITDA was €26 million, with a provision affecting results due to payment issues under the Vietnamese feed-in-tariff system.
