Greencoat Renewables has announced an investment in its first green digital infrastructure project in Ireland and the launch of a new platform aimed at developing renewably powered data centres. The platform will focus on sites where grid access, land and energy infrastructure can be combined to support the growing energy demand of digital infrastructure, including facilities linked to artificial intelligence development.
The first investment under the platform is the Drogheda Energy Park on Ireland’s east coast. The platform intends to pursue additional data centre opportunities in Ireland and other European countries. The platform is structured as a 50:50 joint venture between Greencoat Renewables and Schroders Greencoat’s evergreen vehicle, SCSL Global Energy Infrastructure.
