Early July 2019 Sif and Vineyard Wind announced the manufacturing by Sif of 84 monopiles for Vineyard Wind’s offshore wind project in Massachusetts USA.The installation of the monopiles is subject to a schedule that includes seasonal restrictions on pile driving activity as a protective measure for the highly endangered North Atlantic Right Whales. Sif scheduled the production of these monopiles for the first half of 2020.

Jan De Nul Group has completed installation of all twenty foundations on the 120MW Formosa 1 Phase 2 wind farm in Taiwan. As part of Jan De Nul Group’s EPCI contract for building of the overall Balance of Plant, Jan De Nul Group mobilised the Seaway Yudin to install the 20 foundations.

A consortium managed by the Technical University of Denmark (DTU) is currently carrying out a research project named DURALEDGE (Durable Leading Edges) to investigate erosion mechanisms and develop new coatings to permanently protect rotor blades. In addition, the consortium aims to develop calculation models to predict edge protection.

TenneT has met and even exceeded the German government’s roll-out targets for North Sea wind power. The transmission readiness of BorWin3, TenneT’s twelfth offshore grid connection project, means that a further 900MW of transmission capacity will be available to feed the wind power produced at sea into the onshore extra-high voltage grid. In total, the offshore transmission capacity in the North Sea alone will therefore amount to 7.132GW this year.
