RWE and Danish construction company Østermark Entreprenørforretning have held a topping-out ceremony for the operations and maintenance base for the Thor offshore wind farm. Located at Thorsminde port, the 2,300-square-metre, three-storey building will include a control room, warehouse and office space to support daily wind farm operations.
The base is expected to create 50 to 60 local jobs. Construction is scheduled for completion by the end of 2025. From spring 2026, service vessels will transport technicians and personnel to the turbines from the port. RWE intends to operate the facility from Thorsminde for at least 30 years.
Foundation and cable installation works are currently under way. Installation of the 72 offshore wind turbines is scheduled to begin in 2026, with the wind farm expected to be completed in 2027.
Thor offshore wind farm will have a capacity of 1,080 MW and is jointly owned by RWE (51%) and Norges Bank Investment Management (49%). RWE is responsible for construction and operation over the project’s lifetime.
