Minnesota Power plans to build the 200 MW Longspur Wind project in Morton and Mercer counties, North Dakota, near its existing Bison Wind Energy Centre. Construction is scheduled to begin in 2026, pending regulatory approval in both North Dakota and Minnesota.
The 45-turbine project is expected to be operational by late 2027 and will qualify for full federal production tax credits. Longspur will connect to Minnesota Power’s infrastructure in the area and use its 465-mile high-voltage direct current transmission line to deliver power to northern Minnesota.
