GE Vernova and Seatrium have been selected by TenneT to deliver part of the BalWin5 offshore high-voltage direct current grid connection, which will transmit 2.2 GW of wind power from the German North Sea to the onshore network.

GE Vernova’s electrification business will supply the onshore and offshore converter stations and the full HVDC system, including control and protection equipment. Seatrium will design and construct the offshore converter platform and oversee its transport and installation. Work is scheduled to begin on 1 January 2026, with most fabrication carried out at the company’s facilities in Singapore and Batam.

This is the fourth project awarded to the GE Vernova–Seatrium consortium under the five-year framework agreement signed with TenneT in March 2023, and the first awarded under TenneT’s German 2 GW programme.
