The Global Wind Organisation (GWO) has introduced the High Voltage Standard, a training programme aimed at commissioning and service technicians working both onshore and offshore. The content supports safe working practices during high voltage operations and cable pulling, under a safe system of work.
The training covers fundamental principles of high voltage systems and key safety elements, including hazard awareness and operational procedures. It consists of two modules:
- High Voltage Operations: Focused on the safe handling and operation of high voltage equipment and systems.
- High Voltage Cable Pulling: Training for safe and effective cable pulling during pre-installation, construction, and servicing phases.
For the High Voltage Operations module, participants must have experience working with low voltage systems, including exposure to electrical hazards, and must have completed the GWO Basic Technical Training Electrical and GWO Control of Hazardous Energies Electrical, or an equivalent local qualification.
The High Voltage Cable Pulling module requires a background in mechanical work and knowledge of safe lifting practices. Participants must have completed the GWO Basic Technical Training Mechanical or an equivalent local qualification.
