The Wind Turbine System Safety Rules will be launched in March 2026. The new framework represents an evolution of existing wind industry safety rules and introduces a more integrated approach to managing electrical risks within wind turbine generators, particularly in systems involving high voltage activities.

The Wind Turbine System Safety Rules build on the existing Wind Turbine Safety Rules framework, which allows organisations to develop their own management instructions for low voltage apparatus. This flexibility has enabled organisations of different sizes and operating in different regions to implement an adaptable Safe System of Work.

Unlike the existing framework, the new rules cover both low voltage and high voltage apparatus within a wind turbine. This removes the need for separate systems and eliminates the requirement for a distinct high voltage Safe System of Work for turbine-related tasks.

The Wind Turbine System Safety Rules have been developed with input from asset owners, original equipment manufacturers and service providers and have been validated through operational scenarios to ensure practical applicability and effectiveness.

A dedicated training programme for the Wind Turbine System Safety Rules will also be launched in March 2026.
