Through a US $600,000 non-reimbursable technical cooperation grant from the Central American Bank for Economic Integration and the Republic of Korea, the Costa Rican Electricity Institute (ICE in Spanish) will receive support for the development of offshore wind farms in the country.
The grant will finance studies to identify the potential of offshore wind energy and the challenges, risks, and opportunities in the development, installation, and operation of offshore wind farms. The studies also include the design of a buoy monitoring system for data collection and the evaluation of the marine-coastal infrastructure for the development of offshore wind energy projects, including market analysis, technical engineering and design recommendations, and their respective financial analysis. The Technical Cooperation’s execution is expected to start during the second quarter of 2022 and be completed within 18 months.
