The Spanish Ministry for the Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge has launched a public consultation to guide the design of the country’s first competitive auction for floating offshore wind. Companies, industry associations and public authorities can submit feedback until 24 February. The consultation will guide the final design of the auction mechanism.
The scheme will use a two-sided Contract for Difference and incorporate non-economic evaluation criteria, including environmental impact, job creation and local industrial development, moving beyond price-only allocation models. Alongside the auction design, the Spanish government has introduced industrial support measures to prepare ports and logistics for offshore wind deployment.
