The Republic of Moldova has completed its first public tender for large-scale renewable energy, marking a milestone in the country’s energy transition. Five new wind projects have been selected, to be implemented by three companies. The auction process attracted strong interest, with more than 40 proposals submitted.
The tender aims to add 165 MW of renewable capacity, including 60 MW from wind energy. The remaining 105 MW will come from solar projects, with six proposals selected to fill that capacity band. All winning projects will benefit from fixed 15-year tariffs. The selected projects are expected to mobilise around €190 million in investment.
In 2024, Moldova doubled its renewable electricity output, reaching a total installed capacity of nearly 580 MW across wind, solar, hydro, and biogas. Renewables accounted for over 16% of the country’s total electricity consumption last year, reflecting a sharp increase from previous years.
