Interconnect Malta has issued a public tender for metocean data collection to support the development of the country’s planned offshore floating wind project. The survey will gather site-specific wind measurements, wave conditions and environmental data, including avian and bat activity. The information is intended to support future developers in preparing technical and financial proposals.
Data will be collected over a two-year period to capture seasonal variations and improve assessment reliability. The work will use floating buoys equipped with instruments such as LiDAR, anchored to maintain position throughout the survey period.
The scope of the €3.6 million project also includes maintenance, data collection and analysis. The programme builds on earlier marine surveys covering bathymetry, seabed conditions and shallow sub-seabed characteristics to support project design and cost estimation.
