New figures show that competitive tendering is cutting the costs for connecting offshore wind farms to the UK high voltage grid by at least GBP 700 million. The main reasons the savings are being made are because when bidders have to compete against each other they will offer a better deal on financing and operating costs compared with monopoly network companies.

WWEA has released the global small wind statistics. The Summary of the 2016 Small Wind World Report indicates that 2014 brought a recovery but it was still a challenging year for the small wind industry.As of the end of 2014, a cumulative total of at least 945,000 small wind turbines were installed all over the world. This is an increase of 8,3 % (7,4 % in 2013) compared with the previous year, when 872,000 units were registered.

A new study by the University of Delaware's Special Initiative on Offshore Wind (SIOW) reports that a commitment by Massachusetts to develop offshore wind energy at a scale of 2,000MW, combined with ongoing technology and industry advances, will lower previously projected costs for the clean energy source by as much as 55 per cent in the next decade.
