The US National Safety Council (NSC) has presented Ryan Severe of Puget Sound Energy (PSE) with the 2025 Green Cross for Safety Innovation Award. Severe was recognised for his work with Sytis’ TC-90 bi-spectral card camera in PSE’s wind turbine electrical panels. Used in combination with Sytis’ InfraSpec software, the compact embedded camera allows real-time, remote monitoring of electrical components to detect issues at an early stage.
The system was introduced to investigate recurring causes of downtime, fires and arc flashes in PSE’s Vestas V80 turbines. After installation, the technology identified that contactors and lead wires were operating at temperatures above their rated limits. Severe’s integration of the TC-90 system has also improved operational safety by enabling real-time visibility into live inverter panels from the safety of a vehicle, avoiding direct exposure to energised components during diagnostics.
