Three north-east Scotland energy businesses have united under a new brand, Maraen, to strengthen capabilities in offshore wind and wider energy infrastructure. The new entity brings together Port of Nigg, Global Energy and Global Energy Services into an integrated energy infrastructure provider. The rebranding follows the acquisition of the businesses in 2025 by Mitsui & Co. Europe and Mitsui O.S.K. Lines.
As part of the development, a final investment decision has been taken to construct a new heavy-duty quay and roll-on/roll-off facility at the Port of Nigg. The investment of more than £30 million will expand port capacity and operational capability, supporting logistics for offshore wind and other energy projects. Construction is expected to begin shortly, with planning consent and a marine licence already in place.
The development will cover around 16,000 square metres and is supported by a £10 million grant from Highlands and Islands Enterprise. The project forms part of the Scottish Government programme to invest up to £500 million over five years in strengthening the offshore wind supply chain.
