PD Ports has set out plans for the Teesport Offshore Gateway following the Crown Estate’s Round 6 offshore wind leasing announcement, positioning the site as a potential base for future project development. Located on the River Tees, the proposed facility would support manufacturing, assembly and deployment activities for fixed and floating offshore wind. The central North Sea lease areas, expected to bring around 6 GW of capacity to market, are situated relatively close to the Tees.
The development is designed to provide deep-water access and large-scale infrastructure for offshore wind logistics. Plans include berths of up to 1 km in length, water depth of 16 metres and around 300 acres of adjacent land within the Teesport area.
Economic estimates suggest the project could contribute approximately £270 million annually to the local economy and support more than 2,200 direct and indirect jobs.
Subject to a final investment decision, the facility could become operational from 2028.
The proposed development would form part of an existing offshore wind cluster in the Tees and Hartlepool area, which includes subsea cable manufacturing, operations bases and fabrication facilities.
PD Ports holds existing consents for deep-water berth development at the site and is currently progressing planning adjustments to enable offshore wind use. Discussions are ongoing with developers, manufacturers and installation contractors regarding potential future use of the facility.
The company is also engaging with UK government bodies and industry stakeholders to define the investment framework required to advance the project.
