Thistle Wind Partners has submitted the offshore consent application for its Bowdun Offshore Wind Farm project to the Scottish Government’s Marine Directorate Licensing and Operations Team. The submission means the full 1 GW project is now under review, with both the offshore and onshore elements in the determination process.
The onshore planning application was submitted to Aberdeenshire Council in November 2025.
The fixed-bottom ScotWind project is planned around 44 km offshore from Stonehaven on the Aberdeenshire coast.
According to the developer, the wind farm could generate enough electricity to supply the equivalent of around 1.2 million homes. The project also includes plans to invest more than £1 billion in the Scottish supply chain.
