Kitepower has received authorisation from the German aviation authority (LBA) to operate in Germany under the European Union Aviation Safety Agency’s Article 13 cross-border approval. The company will begin its first operations in Baden-Württemberg.
The approval enables Kitepower to benefit from Germany’s feed-in tariffs and to advance the integration of airborne wind energy into the national renewable mix. A recent DEM-AWE project study estimated a potential of 12–108 GW of airborne wind energy capacity in Germany, with nearly 90% located in areas unsuitable for conventional wind turbines but viable for kites.
