The New York Power Authority has published its Renewables Updated Strategic Plan outlining its approach to developing, owning, and operating renewable generation and energy storage projects to support a more diverse state power system. The plan, approved by the NYPA Board of Trustees, includes 45 projects and 146 distributed energy storage schemes with a combined capacity of nearly 5.5 GW.

The document is iterative and will be reviewed regularly. Projects may be added, amended, or removed as new development opportunities are assessed. All listed projects will be examined, though only those considered technically and financially viable will proceed.

The updated plan sets out 39 solar arrays, three wind projects, and 149 energy storage projects across all regions of New York State.

It reflects changes arising from project due diligence, expected attrition, and wider market conditions, including the removal of federal tax credits for wind and solar projects and recent interconnection study outcomes. NYPA will continue working with partners to advance the projects amid sector challenges and competition for equipment and contractors.
