Sif has launched Sif Decom, a dedicated business focused on the marshalling, logistics and processing of decommissioned offshore wind materials, including monopiles. The company aims to recover valuable materials from offshore wind farms for reuse and recycling, supporting the production of lower-carbon steel for new circular monopiles.
With the first generation of offshore wind farms approaching the end of their operational lives, Sif Decom has spent the past two years developing material handling and processing methods for decommissioning projects. Sif Decom has also signed memoranda of understanding with several partners covering key areas of the decommissioning process. These include Ballast Nedam for offshore decommissioning works, Business in Wind for wind turbine refurbishment and repurposing, Dillinger for the production of lower-carbon steel, and Jansen Recycling Group for material processing.
