Aquora, formerly XLCC, has been launched as a Scotland-based cable installation and manufacturing business focused on the supply of high-voltage cables for offshore wind and other renewable energy projects in the UK and Europe. The company plans to begin operations with cable installation services. This initial phase will centre on the use of a new cable-lay vessel, with cables supplied through a partnership with Orient Cables.
Once installation activities are established, Aquora plans to construct a high-voltage cable manufacturing facility in Scotland. The facility is expected to support future demand from offshore wind projects and other grid infrastructure developments. As part of its operating model, Aquora plans to deploy a UK-flagged cable-lay vessel that will also be available for maintenance and repair work on critical infrastructure. This includes emergency response services for high-voltage cables damaged during third-party activities. The company also plans to develop a Scotland-based cable engineering and delivery capability to support wind energy developers in the UK and Europe, with an expected workforce of around 150 to 200 people. The proposed cable manufacturing facility would represent a later phase of development and is expected to employ around 800 people once operational.
