The farm, spanning 10 hectares, is planned to be operational off the coast of the Netherlands in the North Sea starting autumn this year, with seeding and deployment scheduled, and the first harvest expected in spring 2025. Supported by Amazon’s Right Now Climate Fund, the consortium aims to contribute to Europe's climate action targets by exploring the potential of seaweed cultivation. Seaweed, like trees, plays a role in absorbing nitrogen, phosphorus, and carbon dioxide while generating oxygen, offering solutions to climate change and ocean acidification.
