RWE has unveiled the official name of its Northern California project: Canopy Offshore Wind Farm (Canopy).
This announcement coincides with the approaching one-year anniversary of RWE's successful bid in the 2022 federal offshore lease auction, where the company secured the right to develop a project of up to 1.6GW, located 28 miles off the coast of Humboldt County, CA, USA.
To facilitate the wind farm's development, RWE intends to establish an office in downtown Eureka in early 2024 for its local team. The team has recently expanded with the addition of three new hires, focusing on building relationships, providing transparent project updates, and maintaining community engagement throughout every stage of Canopy's development. Canopy is projected to have the capacity to supply energy to over 600,000 homes and is anticipated to be operational by the mid-2030s.
