Ocean Winds has begun electricity production at its 30 MW Éoliennes Flottantes du Golfe du Lion (EFGL) floating offshore wind project in France. EFGL has been developed in partnership with Banque des Territoires. The pilot wind farm comprises three 10 MW turbines installed on floating foundations and is located around 16 kilometres off the coast in deep Mediterranean waters.
Approximately 85% of the direct suppliers involved in the project are French companies or companies based in France, while more than 99% are located in Europe. Around 60% qualify as small and medium-sized enterprises.
The EFGL wind farm is expected to generate around 110,000 MWh per year of electricity, sufficient to supply approximately 50,000 people annually over a 20-year period.
As a pilot project, EFGL is intended to support the development of larger floating offshore wind projects, including the 250 MW Éoliennes Flottantes d’Occitanie (EFLO), awarded to Ocean Winds and Banque des Territoires in late 2024.
