MassCEC is progressing plans to modernise the New Bedford Marine Commerce Terminal to meet the evolving requirements of the offshore wind sector. Since construction began in 2013, turbine components such as towers, blades and nacelles have increased in size, prompting the need for enhanced handling capacity and throughput.
Phase 3 builds on earlier developments completed in 2017 and 2022, which added 7.7 acres of heavy-lift laydown space alongside office and warehouse facilities. Key elements of the Phase 3 expansion include an additional five acres of contiguous heavy-lift storage, increasing total capacity by 24% to 26 acres. The project will also add 200 linear feet of heavy-lift quayside, expanding the bulkhead by 20% to 1,200 linear feet, and includes refurbishment of warehouse and office space for tenants and staff.
Project completion is currently expected by the end of 2028, subject to ongoing planning, contract structuring and construction progress.
