Baltic IronBaltic Shipping Company has added two new vessels, M/V Baltic Iron and M/V Baltic Timber, to its fleet. The two 3,550 DWT coasters are equipped with two Econowind VentoFoils and battery systems, with the wind-assisted propulsion system expected to reduce fuel consumption by up to 12%.

Both vessels are fitted with large battery packs and operate as hybrid vessels. M/V Baltic Timber entered service first, followed by its sister vessel M/V Baltic Iron. Both are now in commercial operation under Baltic Shipping Company’s management. The VentoFoils use wind to provide additional thrust, reducing the power required from the main engine.
