Iberdrola and Gamesa have presented an industrial project, contemplating the building of five wind turbine factories in Portugal.
They have also announced, within their strategic dedication to this country, that the consortium will bid in the tender called by the Portuguese government in 2005 to distribute wind capacity in Portugal. The project will be developed in Guarda and Paços de Ferreira (Oporto) over the coming two years. The new facilities, which may have an area of up to 100,000m2, will be able to manufacture more than 100 wind turbines a year, with a capacity of almost 300MW. These facilities include a tower plant, a blade plant, an electronic capacity plant, a turbine assembly plant and a logistics centre. With orders guaranteed for the next eight years, it is expected that more than half the production will be exported.
