Challenges and Innovations in Wind Farm Performance Assessment

Tipspeed Image 1 Overview of performance assessment solutionsEnsuring that wind turbines operate at their maximum potential is critical for financial sustainability and the broader acceptance of wind energy. Power performance tests are essential to verify contractual turbine characteristics, optimise production, and refine energy yield estimates. Ideally, performance would be continuously monitored with high accuracy for all turbines.

However, in practice, trade-offs exist between accuracy and coverage (spatial or temporal) due to technical and financial constraints (illustrated in Figure 1). Some methods offer high accuracy but are limited to short time frames and a few turbines. Others offer wider coverage but lack the desired accuracy.
