Construction of a wind turbine plant began recently in the city of Baotou Inner Mongolia.
The plant will focus on manufacturing wind turbines with capacities between 1.2 to 1.5 megawatts, and annual manufacturing capacity will be 300 sets. The project is planned to start production in 2007.The plant is funded by Goldwind Science and Technology, Zhonghang Huiteng Windpower Equipment and Shanghai Yong'an Petrochemical Engineering at a cost of US$58.97 million. Another wind power plant funded by North Heavy Industries Group, the UK's Honiton Energy Ltd. and Germany's Repower is under construction. This particular project will be able to produce 400 2MW rotor blades annually when it is completed in the end of 2007. The products manufactured by these two projects would be mainly sold to local wind power projects. Inner Mongolia plans to reach 5,000MW of wind power generation capacity by 2010
