Following a public consultation, the French government has chosen locations for two offshore wind projects off France's Atlantic coast. The wind farms will be located more than 35 kilometres from the coast, off the island of Oléron.
The government intends to initiate a competitive dialogue for the first project with the aim to select a winner in early 2024 and the commissioning date is set for the early 2030s. The first project, with a capacity of 1GW, could be supplemented later by a second plant with a capacity of 1GW, which could be a bottom fixed wind farm or a floating wind farm. By 2028, France hopes to have 5 GW of offshore wind capacity.
