Vestas has launched a plan for a modular and customised nacelle design. The company plans to divide the nacelle into manageable modular subcomponents which will consist of a main nacelle house, and one or more side-compartments depending on configuration.
The dimensions of the different components correspond to general industry logistics standards such as shipping containers, for road, train, and sea transportation. The components will be connected using a simple click-on system which makes it possible to upgrade turbines over the lifetime.
