Schaeffler Group has developed a new line of main shaft bearings with optimised features to specifically eliminate premature failures, reduce friction torque, increase lubricant life, and improve overall performance reliability.
 
Schaeffler began the optimisation process by analysing main bearing operating data from approximately 14,000 turbines. The recorded failure pattern (which included surface-initiated fatigue, abrasive wear and uneven internal load distribution in most of the observed turbines) was a real indication of the severity of the operating conditions. These findings led to an analytical investigation that culminated with several in-house development, testing, and validation of an entire new line of main bearings for the wind turbines.
