Germany's economy and climate minister, Robert Habeck, has presented a package of measures to speed up the expansion of onshore wind power in the country.

Germany has a target to generate 80% of its electricity needs from renewable sources by 2030, with a goal of increasing the capacity of onshore wind power to 115GW. Currently, just 0.8 percent of Germany's land is set aside for onshore wind power, with only 0.5 percent actually being utilised. The proposed legislation intends to raise that ratio to 2% by requiring each of the 16 federal states to make a certain amount of land accessible for wind farms. Before going into force, the law must be approved by the German government.
