Pentland Floating Offshore Wind Farm has announced it will use Stiesdal Offshore’s TetraSub concept, an industrialised floating technology, as the floating foundation structure for the project.The technology offers a floating solution, based on factory-made modules which are then assembled domestically in port to form a complete foundation. This concept reduces manufacturing hours and transportation costs, while providing more opportunities for local supply chain. Together with Shell, RWE and TEPCO RP, Stiesdal Offshore deployed its first floater last year when the TetraSpar Demonstrator was installed at METCentre off the coast of Norway. The TetraSub is the semisubmersible variant of the Tetra concept. It is better suited for the relatively shallow water conditions at Pentland, and the marine operations are easier. The TetraSub retains the logistic advantages of the TetraSpar, being assembled in port from industrially manufactured components.
