Northern Power introduces new power converter Print E-mail
Monday, 05 March 2007

Northern Power has announced the availability of its newly developed wind turbine power converter.

This new FlexPhase technology improves wind turbine reliability, energy capture and grid performance. The power converter has been designed and built from the ground up to meet the challenges of wind turbine operation, using an innovative, proprietary power circuit coupled with a high performance controller. The advanced power circuit enables the modular power converter to use 40% fewer power transistors and 50% fewer capacitors than conventional power converters while yielding higher performance and reliability. The power converter design utilises a proprietary magnetics filter and circuit configuration to obtain lower switching losses and very fast response time, as well as very low dv/dt. The FlexPhase technology power modules can be configured for most types of wind turbine applications in the 500 kW to 5 MW range.
