The Global Wind Energy Council (GWEC), an international body on wind energy, will launch its chapter in India to promote the development and growth of wind power in the country. Brussels-headquartered GWEC has presence in the US, Europe, Australia, China and Japan and brings together national and international wind energy associations, policy makers, manufacturers and industries in this sector.

With energy independence and renewable energy development a legislative priority for Congressional leaders, the introduction of another renewable energy legislative proposal made its way to the Senate floor last week. Senator Kent Conrad's (D-ND) bill, called Breaking Our Long-term Dependence (BOLD) Energy Act, includes a five-year extension of the wind energy production tax credit.

According to a report published by the British Wind Energy Association (BWEA), by 2010 the onshore wind industry will generate 50% more electricity than previously predicted, and will have installed 6,000MW of wind power capacity, generating almost 5% of the UK’s electricity supply and delivering nearly half of the government’s 2010 renewable energy target.
