Stillstrom by Maersk has completed a trial of its automated offshore vessel charging system, aimed at reducing the need for manual cable handling when vessels operate on dynamic positioning in offshore wind farms. The trial of the Stillstrom Offshore eCharger, witnessed by DNV as part of its technology qualification process, tested the system's ability to manage the charging cable automatically from connection through to the vessel returning to position.

CS Wind Offshore has started using a custom-built automated milling machine from CNC Onsite at its facility in Aalborg, Denmark, to produce cable penetrations in transition pieces for offshore wind farms. The machine uses computer-controlled milling to produce precise, clean-cut holes for reliable cable sealing. Each transition piece requires six cable penetrations and 12 pressure relief holes. The latter help prevent structural deformation under changing pressure and rough sea conditions.

Researchers at Delft University of Technology (TU Delft) have developed two material approaches that could improve the durability and sustainability of wind turbine blades. The research, published in Advanced Science and Advanced Materials, focuses on reducing rain erosion at blade tips and strengthening flax fibre composites. The two studies form part of the NWO-funded LICHEN BLADES project, which is investigating circular wind turbine blade designs. PhD candidates Natalia Guevara Sotelo and Deniz Sayinbas are the lead authors, supervised by Julie Teuwen and Kunal Masania.
