US Wind sent a letter to the Ocean City Council offering to discuss the potential relocation of its proposed offshore wind project further eastward to address the Council's desire to lessen the visibility of the project.
US Wind officials say they have engaged local officials, business leaders, local commercial and sport fishing communities and area residents since they were first awarded the lease to develop Maryland's offshore wind area in 2014 and look forward to working with the City Council. In its letter, US Wind proposes a possible relocation of its project of up to five miles eastward, which would reduce the visibility of any structures by more than 35 pe rcent, according to its estimates. The Maryland-based firm writes that it understands "the tourism-based economy Ocean City has cultivated over the years" and underscores its "commitment to be a good corporate partner in the Ocean City community and continue our dialogue" around the proposed offshore wind project.
