The recent investment decision for the Trianel Windpark Borkum II (TWB II) offshore wind park marks an important milestone for both the TWB II project and for Deutsche WindGuard (DWG). Over the past few years DWG has been closely involved in the development of the TWB II project.

During this time, DWG have carried out a variety of tasks including: technical support for the preparation of the wind turbine tender; wind farm optimisations for different turbine types, assessment of effective turbulence and loading effects due to neighbouring turbines as well as preparation of the energy yield assessment reports which formed the basis of project financing. After the decision to look at larger wind turbine types the challenge was how to optimally integrate the larger wind turbines within the planned area. This involved the consideration of the turbine design parameters and the licensing requirements of the existing neighbouring wind parks. For this purpose, DWG computed the load-relevant parameters resulting from the revised design, and tested the structural integrity of the neighbouring turbines already in operation by means of integral load simulation.
