MAKE expects more than 230GW of wind power capacity to be installed in China from 2015 to 2024. Policy support and investment in transmission will drive short-term growth, while offshore development and LCOE will gain more importance over the medium- to long-term.
MAKE has upgraded China’s installed forecast for 2015 and 2016 to 24GW and 22GW, respectively, and upgraded China’s grid-connected forecast for 2015 and 2016 to 25GW and 21.5GW. This was primarily due to substantial capacity released in the fifth batch of planned projects in April and better than expected market ambition in 2015. Record capacity growth in China in 2014 will lead to short-term curtailment and grid congestion and Xinjiang becomes the fastest growing wind province in China.
