Hitachi Zosen will partner with Sumitomo Electric Industries, Mitsubishi Corp. and others to construct one of Japan's biggest offshore wind farms.

The wind farm, which is slated to come online in fiscal 2024, will be located about 2 kilometres off the coast of Murakami, a city in northern Niigata Prefecture. 40 to 50 wind turbines will be erected across a 2,700-hectare area. The project will cost more than 100 billion yen (US$ 841 million). The companies will begin a feasibility study in fiscal 2015, and plan to start construction in fiscal 2020.
