UK Secretary of State, Ed Davy has awarded Mainstream Renewable Power, along with its partners Siemens and Dong Energy, consent for the 1,200 Hornsea Project 1 offshore wind farm in the UK.

The project is scheduled to commence operation by 2020. The DCO covers the entire project, including the turbines, offshore and onshore substations, array cables and export cable. Project One is located 120 kilometres off the Yorkshire coast and covers approximately 407 square kilometres. Hornsea Project One is being developed by SMartWind - a consortium of Mainstream Renewable Power and Siemens Financial Services - and DONG Energy. Siemens acts as financing and technology partner in the joint venture. The company recently announced its intention to invest in wind turbine production facilities in Hull that could also produce the Hornsea turbines.
