The Ethiopian government has officially opened the Ashegoda wind farm, which is among the largest wind farms in sub Saharan Africa with a capacity of 120MW.

With planned annual production of 400 GWh, this new wind farm, located in Mekele, Ethiopia, will save 300,000 tonnes of CO2 per year and provide a source of renewable electricity for nearly one million people each year. The 84 wind turbines were erected by Vergnet SA with cooperation from the French conglomerate Alstom and with financial backing from Coface.
