Thai Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra officially launched Thailand’s first wind power project, acclaimed as the largest in Southeast Asia with capacity of 207MW.

The West Huay Bong 2 and 3 wind farms are developed by Wind Energy Holding Co in the north eastern part of the country. The electricity generated will be supplied to the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT) and other customers. Wind Energy Holding Co will also invest about 30-35 billion baht to build five wind farms with a combined capacity of 420MW. The company plans to list on the Stock Exchange of Thailand by 2015 to raise 10 billion baht to be able to finance the projects. The company aims to increase total capacity to more than 1,000MW.
